Movie Review 6 -Shrek-

Shrek is an American movie, which is a fantasy, comedy, adventure story in 2001. Also, the movie was a full CG animation film and the story is based on a picture book written by William Steig’s in 1990. This movie is the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated. The award was introduced in 2001.
Shrek (Mike Myers) is a large, scary, green monster who lives a quiet life in his home in a swamp, but this life is disturbed when he help Donkey (Eddie Murphy) who is talkative and who escapes from his owner. Donkey can talk with people so his owner tries to sell him because soldiers of Duloc buy some rare goods and animals. The Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) gets involved in ruling a “perfect kingdom” and uses the Magic Mirror to select a princess bride who he can marry in order to become the king. He chooses Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She is captive in a castle where a Dragon lives. The Mirror tries to warn Farquaad about Fiona’s secret, but Farquaad ignores it.
Farquaad holds a tournament to select a knight worthy rescuing Princess Fiona, but then Shrek and Donkey break into the tournament. Farquaad orders the knights to kill Shrek but Shrek fights them and defeats them, so Farquaad decides that Shrek is the knight because he is the winner of the tournament. Shrek rejects the order once, but he decides to go to rescue Princess Fiona in order to remove fairy tale creatures which are in his swamp now from his swamp.
When they get to the castle, a rickety bridge is in their way to enter the castle. They begin to cross but Donkey is afraid to cross, so Shrek forces him to move back and finally stepping off. When they enter in the castle, they split up to look for Princess Fiona. Donkey finds the stairs, so Shrek remembers a book which said princess is in the highest room of the tallest tower. On the other hand, Donkey also searches for Princess Fiona, but he runs into the dragon which is fire breathing and which is guarding her, so Shrek and Donkey run away but the dragon chases them. They manage to catch the dragon and Shrek attempts to kill the dragon but Donkey protects the dragon, so the dragon, which is actually female, loves him. Finally, they find Princess Fiona and go back to the kingdom.
On the way to the kingdom, Shrek gets falling in love with Fiona and she also loves him, but she has a secret. It is that she is also ogre actually in night. She tries to say that to him but he gets something wrong, so he gets angry and thinks she considers that he is ugly ogre. Therefore, he forces to take her to the kingdom. He wants to get back to his swamp. Donkey knows Fiona’s secret so he blurts out her secret but Shrek remains refusing to hear.
After that, Shrek lives in his swamp as before. Donkey can’t stand keeping the secret and leaving them so he tells Shrek the secret and what Fiona loves him truly. He finds that, he rushes to Farquaad’s castle to stop their wedding but he isn’t able to make it in time. Then, Donkey whistles so Dragon appears and takes Shrek and Fiona. Farquaad realizes that Shrek loves Fiona truly and begins laughing. Then Fiona shows Shrek her true figure, which is ogre like Shrek. Farquaad is surprised and he offers to kill them. Shrek whistles so Dragon appears again and she swallows Farquaad. Shrek tells Fiona that he truly loves her and they share a kiss that turns Fiona into an ogress all the time.
At the last, Shrek and Fiona get married.

Movie Review 2-05

"School of Rock" is an American comedy movie in 2003. This movie is about one rock musician changing strict school students through rock music.

Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is the guitarist and singer in his heavy metal and hard rock band. He loves rock music and his band, but one day, he is fired from the band. In addition, he lives an apartment in which his best friend, Ned Schneebly (Mike White), also lives but he is behind in his rent so Patty De Marco (Sarah Silverman) who is Ned’s girlfriend complains about Dewey.
Then, the telephone rings and he answers the phone. The call is from the principal, Rosalie Mullins (Joan Cusack), of Horace Green Elementary School which is a highly prestigious prep school and she asks Ned to be the substitute teacher. Dewey who is in financial need gets an idea that he passes him off as Ned and that he is to be a substitute teacher in the school.
Thus, he becomes a teacher nicknamed “Mr. S” as Ned but he doesn’t teach anything to students. He just says to students that take a break so they are at a loss and say to him that please teach them, but he repeats that. One day, however, he sees their music class and hears their music so he discovers that some of them in the class have musical talent and decides to give a special school project, which is to take part in “Battle of the Band”. Dewey selects the members of the band. Zack Mooneyham (Joy Gaydos) who is nicknamed "Zack Attack" is the guitarist, Freddy Jones (Kevin Alexander Clark) who is nicknamed "Spazzy McGee" is the drummer, Katie (Rebecca Julia Brown) who nicknamed “Posh Spice” is the bass guitarist, and Lawrence (Robert Tsai) who is nicknamed “Mr. Cool” is the keyboardist. Moreover, Tomika (Maryam Hassan) nicknamed "Turkey Sub", Marta (Caitlin Hale) nicknamed "Blondie", and Alicia (Aleisha Allen) nicknamed "Braceface" are the back-up singers. Also, some students work behind the scene as a security, a roadie, working smoke machine, and groupies. They are absorbed in playing and studying rock and especially, Zack write a original song, “School of Rock”. When Dewey listened to this song, he was exited and was amazed.
Finally, they take part in “The Battle of the Bands” but before that, Dewey’s real identity was revealed, so he was fired. He loses his sense of purpose in the school and in his life. However, the students take him on the way to the contest. He apologizes to them and they rush in the contest. They arriving there, Dewey decides to play not "Legend of the Rent" but “School of Rock” because he think that the song Zack wrote is really cool. Most of bands finish their performance and the time has come. Definitely, Dewey and the students lose but they enjoy own performance, so they are satisfied. Then, the audiences loudly boo. They want School of Rock to play again, that is, they call for an encore, so they play their music again.
In the credit, the students play rock with Dewey and Ned teach how to play the guitar to little children.

I like this movie because I also love rock music. In this movie, so many names and music of famous rock bands and rock musician over the world are used, for example, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, AC/DC, The Who, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Sex Pistols, and so on. I like these bands, so I understand why Dewey teaches that.

Movie Review 4 -Mrs. Doubtfire-

Mrs. Doubtfire is an American comedy movie in 1993.
Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) who didn't like serious was a voice actor and had a lot of kinds of voices. He had a wife, Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) and three children, Lydia (Lisa Jakub), Chris (Matthew Lawrence), and Natalie (Mara Wilson) and loved them very much. He worked some animation studio but he quited the job because he lived up to his beliefs. The day, he gave a birthday party for Chris who was his son, so he invited so many his friends and animals. They had a wild time and littered his house but then Miranda who was serious came back home. She was stunned to look at own house, so she decided to divorce him. As a result of trial, he lost custody of his children for two months because he didn't have a job and house to live in, so he could meet his children only in Saturday. He despaired and lived off his brother, Frank (Harvey Fierstein) who was an aritst doing a makeup. He had to find a new job and new house in the two months, or he lost custody of his children forever. At first, he looked for a new job and found it. His new job was carrying some properties in TV studio. However, he couldn't stand seeing his children only once in a week because he was anxious to see them, so he decided to be a housekeeper. Then, he asked his gay brother to change him for woman. With the cosmetics skills of him and of his brother’s partner, he became an old woman as Mrs. Doubtfire. He succeeded in being a housekeeper and he worked perfectly as a housekeeper. His children studied harder and got better grades at school because of him/her, and Miranda also felt happier. Therefore, Mrs. Doubtfire was accepted by them. Then, Miranda met Stu (Pierce Brosnan) who was her former boyfriend again and then it came out for children except Natalie that Mrs. Doubtfire was Daniel, but they promised not to tell that.
Daniel criticized some TV program which was for children in his workplace and Jonathan Lundy (Robert Prosky) who was the president saw his clowning with toy dinosaur and he thought it was interesting, so he wanted to hear his idea for new TV program, and so he promised to meet at diner. He was happy but the day was Miranda’s birthday, so Stu invited her, her children, and Mrs. Doubtfire, so meeting with the president and diner with the Hillards and Stu was at the same time and at the same restaurant. Thus, he had to change clothes in the bathroom to go both to his family and to his boss, but his disguise was revealed. Miranda is shocked to learn that her beloved housekeeper is really her ex-husband.
Finally, he lost custody of his children, but then, he could have his TV program as Mrs. Doubtfire. Miranda and the children missed him/her, so she decided to ask him as their father to take care of the children.
I thought this movie was very interesting and heartwarming story. This movie also teaches what family is and importance of family. What impressed me was personally using Aerosmith’s song, “Dude” in this movie. Mrs. Doubtfire danced to the music of it with cleaning. I like that scene.

Movie Reviw 3 - Romeo+Juliet

Romeo and Juliet was a play written by William Shakespeare who was an English dramatist and poet, and who was the best English writer of English literature. He was also well known as writing the four best tragedy of him, which were Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, and King Lear.

In first day, Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) met Juliet (Claire Danes) in the masquerade which was held by Capulets but they were rival house and knew that each other. However, they fell in love at first sight each other and promised getting married. In second day, they got married but Romeo saw Mercutio (Harold Perrineau Jr.), one of his friends, killed by Capulets, so he killed Tybalt (John Leguizamo) who was a cousin of Juliet and he was deported on a court order. In third day, Juliet went to take advice from Friar Lawrence (Pete Postlethwaite). To succeed in their love, she once accepted getting married with Paris (Paul Rudd). After that, she took a drug to be state of apparent death. Friar Lawrence thought that he sent to Romeo to tell a plan that their going to Manture after she woke up, but he was not able to accept the letter. In the last day, Romeo kissed Juliet who slept by a drug and she woke up but he got something wrong and thought she was dead, so he decided to suicide by drinking poison. However, she didn’t die and found his dead, so she despaired and also decided to die.

I have watched this movie filmed in 1968, so I thought the movie impressed me but I couldn’t enjoy this movie. This movie was filmed in 1996 and it is said that this film was a contemporized version of it, so the characters wore an aloha shirt and they used not swords but guns, but it was funny for me. Why did they wear an aloha shirt? Why murders were only reprimanded? I had many questions while I watched it. Of course I thought it was interesting to put the situation contemporary, but I thought Baz Luhrmann had everything his way in this movie.

Movie Review 2-02

"Kill Bill" is an American movie and the main theme is "revenge".

We audience were greeted by the ghastly sight of The Bride (Uma Thurman), the main character, lying in a pool of blood in the start of this movie. She was wearing a blood-spattered wedding gown after she was lynched the assassins who were originally the same party in the wedding chapel. She attempted to tell her would be killer, Bill (David Carradine), that she is pregnant with his baby, but he shoots her in the side of the head.
Four years later, The Bride arrived at Vernita's house. Vernita (Vivica A. Fox) was one of the assassins and was codenamed "Copperhead". Vernita opened the door with a smile but the Bride attacked her in order to kill her. However, Nikki, who was Vernita's daughter, arrived home from school, so they paused the fight until she was taken to her room. In the kitchen, Vernita apologized for being false to her trust but the Bride refused. Vernita gave a suggestion to the Bride to a knife fight later that evening. Vernita then, however, tried to shoot the Bride with a gun, but she missed and the Bride killed her with a knife. Then, Nikki accidentally witness the fight, so the Bride apologized her and said to her that the Bride will wait for her if she grows up and wants to revenge the Bride. After that, the Bride left in a car.
The Bride woke up after her slumber. She escaped from the hospital after killing a man. She deprived a car of him and hid in the back seat. Then, she tried to work her limbs. In the back of the truck, the Bride recalled O-Ren (Lucy Liu) to her mind. She had her personal bodyguard, Go-Go Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama), her friend and lawyer Sofie fatale(Julie Dreyfus), and Johnny Mo, who was a leader of the Crazy 88, O-Ren's personal army.
The Bride went to Okinawa to get a samurai sword from Hattori Hanzo (Shinchi Chiba), who was a master craftsman of samurai sword. Though He strongly decided to never make another sword, so the Bride persuaded him to make a new sword. He finally decided to make it and created the best sword for her.
The Bride went to the "House of Blue Leaves". After the Bride arrived there, she fought Go-Go Yubari and members of the Crazy 88, and so she killed all of them. Then she eventually fought O-Ren with samurai swords in a snowy garden. Thus, she killed O-Ren.
This story stops here in "Kill Bill volume 1", continued to volume 2.

I dislike this movie. This movie is an action movie but is like a comedy, an animation, and a comic for me. If we think this is what his movie is about, it may be interesting. In addition, why did animation be used from the middle of this movie? I mean, the scene was that O-Ren was a child. Moreover, I don't like that Japanese is used in this movie halfway. That is why I am not interested in this movie.

Movie Review 1

“Toy Story” is a Disney CG animated movie, which was released in 1995 and is known as a first full-CG cartoon.

Andy (John Morris) like his toys. Woody (Tom Hanks), a cowboy toy, is his favorite toy, so he always play cowboys with his toys. In this story, toys speak and act secretly. Woody is a leader of Andy’s toys and is happy because Andy plays with him but things have changed. Andy’s birthday is coming so he gets a new toy, which is Buzz lightyear (Tim Allen). This toy is the latest action figure so children want him. He has a lot of functions, such as having a laser gun and wings, some buttons, so Andy like him soon. Woody doesn’t like that because thinks he thinks Buzz deprives his business. In fact, Andy prefers Buzz to Woody, so Woody envies Buzz. Then, Woody pushes him from a window. After that, Woody and Buzz are taken by Sid (Erik von Detten), who is a cruel boy. They meet Sid’s toys which are mismatched. In his room, Buzz has a lapse of confidence because he watches TV commercial about himself. He believes strongly that he is a “space ranger”, so he doesn’t listen to what Woody says, but he knows that he is not a “space ranger” but a toy which is made in Taiwan. However, they cooperate with each other and get back Andy’s home. Then, further problem is happen. Andy has already moved. They work together again. At that time, Buzz can fly actually, so they come back Andy’s hand safely.

This movie is exactly what the title says it is. I think “Toys move and talk in secret” is a dream which everyone has in childhood, thus most of adults also enjoys this movie. What impressed me most is a scene that Buzz knows his real identity. When Buzz who was depressed can fly in the final scene, he says that was falling with style to Woody.

Of course this movie is interesting to adults, but this is still children’s movie. I mean, adults predicts what happen next. For children, this movie is very good because this is a full of dream and adventure, so kids are interested in this film and can learn important things.

Watching movie!

The last Sunday, I went to watching the movie, "The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" because I like this series and the actors, Johnny Depp, Orland Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, and Keith Richards.
I was interested in the story when I watched the first story, so I watched the second movie, too.
Through the series, I think it is the amusing stories and characters, especially "Captain Jack Sparrow".
